Minted in 1880 from the San Francisco mint, this Morgan Silver Dollar was professionally graded in MS63 by PCGS. Like other silver coins minted before 1965, the Morgan Silver Dollar was minted using 90% silver. The first silver dollar since the passage of the Coinage Act of 1873 prohibited the minting of the Seated Liberty dollar is the Morgan Silver Dollar. It was minted from 1878 to 1904 and for a single year in 1921. The silver dollar is named after the designer, George T. Morgan and was authorized by the Bland-Allison act. The obverse of the coin depicts a left-facing Liberty while the reverse is an eagle with wings extended. Once thought to be rare, the Morgan Silver Dollar is one of the most collectible silver coins ever minted in the United States. In 1962, a huge supply of the coin was discovered in the Philadelphia Mint. Despite the sudden supply of Morgan Silver Dollars the coin actually gained in popularity. The Morgan Silver Dollar is available in many different varieties and dates and today remains a highly sought after silver coin by collectors and investors.
