Most of the 500 million Morgan Dollars produced were minted in Philadelphia was the first coin to feature Lady Liberty and an updated. The Morgan Silver Dollar was never popular and most were circulated in the West where the small population created huge stockpiles of the coin. In 1918, over 270 million Morgan Dollars were melted to help Great Britain prepare for World War I. In 1921, 86 million Morgan Dollars were minted but ceased to be minted in favor of the Peace Dollar to commemorate the ending of the war. The Peace Dollars were minted from 1921 to 1928 and then again in 1934 and 1935. The coin was also minted in 1965 and dated 1964. The 1964 coins were never released and melted.
