Opening in 1854 to serve the gold mines of the California Gold Rush, the San Francisco Mint turned $4 million in gold bullion coins in its first year. The new Mint opened in 1937 after it outgrew its first building. In 1968, after a 13-year hiatus, it took over most proof coinage production from the Philadelphia Mint but continued striking an extra circulating coinage from 1968 through 1974. All proofs made at the San Francisco Mint carry the "S" mint mark.
The Silver American Eagle Proof coins were minted at the San Francisco Mint in 1986 - 1992 before changing production to the Philadelphia Mint in 1993 and then the West Point Mint in 2001. In 2017, the U.S. Mint released two unique proof versions of the Silver Eagle, minted at the San Francisco Mint and bore the "S" Mintmark. Every year since, the U.S. Mint has been releasing a San Francisco version of the Silver American Eagle Proof coin. Also, in 2019, they released an enhanced reverse-proof version as well. You can get all these S-Mint Silver Eagles in this exclusive package.
All coins are certified in "Perfect" Proof 70 by NGC and have a hand-signed label by Ed Moy, the 38th U.S. Mint Director.
