American Liberty 225th Anniversary Gold Coin

The symbolic figure known as Lady Liberty have been portrayed on American coins for the 225-year history of the United States Mint. In the beginning, Lady Liberty appeared on the silver dollar in what is commonly referred to as the Flowing Hair dollars. This was just the first of many iterations and ideations of the personification of the Liberty ideal that Americans celebrate.

As our country has evolved and consequently our concept of liberty so has the image of Lady Liberty on our coinage. For their 225^th anniversary, the United States Mint has introduced the 2017 American Liberty 225^th Anniversary Gold Coin with the most modern and progressive rendition of Lady Liberty. This is the first time that an African-American has appeared on an officially minted coin. The coin is the first in a series that will depict Lady Liberty in multiple contemporary designs, including as an Asian-American, Hispanic-American, and an Indian-American.

These beautiful high-relief coins are minted in .9999 fine, 24-karat gold, and feature raised edge lettering, with a proof finish. The obverse of the coin features the profile of Lady Liberty wearing a crown of stars in a yoga type dress with LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST inscribed along with the years 1792 and 2017. The reverse of the coin depicts a bald eagle in flight with the coins weight, fineness, and legal tender inscribed. The nearly unprecedented attention to detail includes the rim of the coin, which has 225^th Anniversary in raised lettering.
