The American Gold Eagle tenth is one of the most popular bullion choices in the United States. Introduced in 1986 by the US Mint, it was backed by the US government and based on designs that were originally commissioned by Theodore Roosevelt who stated that the American Gold Eagle would undoubtedly rival the elegance of ancient coins such as those in Greece and Rome. </
The reverse of this Gold coin features an eagle carrying an olive branch home to its nest where his mate awaits. This side also contains the coins purity, value and the initials of the designer, Miley Busiek. There is also numerous wording on this side, both 'IN GOD WE TRUST' and 'E PLURIBUS UNUM,' the official motto of the United States translating from Latin as 'One from many.' The obverse of the coin shows a design just as unique, a rendition of Augustus Saint-Gauden's Lady Liberty with flowing hair, a glowing torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left with the Capitol building in the background. This design was taken directly from the $20 Saint-Gauden's gold coin that was commissioned by Roosevelt.
This coin is crafted from 22 karat gold which makes it resilient to scratching and marking. The tenth-ounce option is great for those looking to invest in gold coins as it is highly moveable and exacting to weight and purity specifications. From 1986 to 1991, the US Mint dated these coins using Roman Numerals. From 1992 to the present, traditional Arabic numbering is used. The US Mint continues to produce quantities of the American Gold Eagle 1/10 ounce so that it retains its status as a leading bullion coin. The face value of the coin is symbolic as the price of the tenth will fluctuate depending on the price of gold.

The Gold Bullion Act that was passed in 1985 states that any gold used for these bullion coins must be from the United States. These Gold Eagle coins are the modern-day version of those used every day in the 19th and early 20th century and are minted every year by the US Mint due to high demand. For those looking to invest in their wealth for retirement, these gold coins are eligible for Precious Metals IRAs making them one of the easiest ways to invest in precious metals.
The US Mint produces these coins in varying sizes, all of which have a different face value. These include the 1/10oz ($5 face value), the ¼ oz ($10 face value), the ½ oz ($25 face value) and the 1oz ($50 face value). All of these are available to buy from the U.S. Gold Bureau site and come in mint condition.
