The Australian Silver Kangaroo coin is one of the most important silver bullion coins in circulation today. This coin, which debuted in 2016 as part of the BU silver series, was the Perth Mint's first annual-release coin to contain.9999 pure silver. Strangely enough, the Silver Kangaroo uses the same design every year instead of switching up its reverse designs like the Kookaburra, Koala, or even its gold cousin.

An ancient copper penny from Australia's past served as the model for the reverse design of the Australian Silver Kangaroo. In 1938, Australian pennies began to include the kangaroo motif, which persisted until 1964. The original design, which featured a merino ram, was replaced with a kangaroo design. The kangaroo was chosen as the featured animal due to its legendary role as an Australian symbol.

One of the final significant bullion coins produced by Perth Mint with a bust of His Majesty King Charles III on the obverse is the 1 oz Silver Kangaroo, which debuted in 2024. Daniel Thorne painted the new portrait of the king.

The 2024 1 oz Silver Kangaroo Coin's obverse features this brand-new image of His Majesty. Charles III is portrayed without a crown on his head and is featured in left-profile relief while wearing a suit. Male monarch currency images often lack a crown, and his left-profile relief continues the custom of monarch portraits rotating orientations after his mother's right-profile portraits during her reign.

The mint has included an image of a kangaroo in the reverse design of the 2024 Australian Silver Kangaroos. With stylized sun rays filling the backdrop element, the marsupial is seen leaping across the design field in left-profile relief.
