One of Perth Mint's earliest collections is the Australian Kangaroo Series. Originally released in 1986 under the name Gold Nugget, this collection underwent a rebranding in 1990 and has since included fresh reverse drawings of the kangaroo, one of Australia's most famous marsupials, every year.

The original Australian Kangaroo coins came in gold weights of 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz, which are still in circulation. Every year, the coins' reverse image of a gold nugget was the same, however each weight's nugget design was unique, at first. The coin designs for the four weights are the same as of 1990; a new design is selected annually.

These 2024 Australian Gold Kangaroo Coins, all weighing one ounce, are offered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Shipping options for the 1 oz gold coins in the series include single plastic capsules or mint-sealed boxes containing 100 coins. The obverse of the coins will depict His Majesty King Charles III for the first time with the 2024 release.

Dan Thorne's new picture of King Charles III appears on the obverse of the 2024 Australian Gold Kangaroo. Following British customs, Charles III is portrayed in left-profile relief, the opposite of both his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, and his predecessor. There is no crown on His Majesty.

The 2024 1 oz Gold Kangaroo Coins' reverse side shows a kangaroo running down the bank of a dry creek. The kangaroo, positioned in left-profile relief, commands the foreground design field. This side displays Perth Mint's P125 mint mark, which commemorates the mint's 125th anniversary of establishment.
