2024 1oz Gold Britannia Coin Highlights:
The 1 oz Gold Britannia stands as one of the world's oldest gold bullion coins. It was introduced by the Royal Mint in 1987, following a sequence that included the South African Krugerrand, Canadian Maple Leaf, Chinese Panda, and the American Eagle. Initially, when the British Gold Britannia was launched in 1987, it was offered in various sizes, including 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz, with a composition of Crown gold alloy, equivalent to 22-karat gold, featuring 91.67% gold content. However, in 2013, the Royal Mint upgraded the purity to 24-karat gold, making it .9999 pure gold.
In terms of its design, the 2024 British Gold Britannia showcases a new portrayal of King Charles III on the obverse side. This image, created by Martin Jennings in 2022, represents the first-ever portrait of the new king. It is a left-profile relief and does not include a crown.
On the reverse side of the 2024 1 oz Gold Britannia, you'll find a depiction of Britannia herself. This powerful female symbol is presented in a forward-facing relief, wearing a Corinthian helmet, holding a trident in her right hand, and resting her left hand on the Union Jack shield while grasping an olive branch.
