2023 Britannia Gold 6-coin Proof 70 Set with Box

Britannia is a symbol of Great Britain that represents a fierce female warrior. The symbol of Britannia was introduced into Great Britain with the Roman invasion and is based on the Roman goddess Minerva however, Britannia is often mistakenly connected with Boudica, the Celtic Iceni monarch who led insurrection against the reign of the Roman empire.

During the reign of Queen Victoria, Britannia made its ultimate assertion as a representation of British strength and became the ultimate representation of Queen Victoria's expanding British dominion. The Royal Mint originally created the Gold Britannia coin in 1987. 

This stunning Gold Britannia 6-Coin set features His Majesty’s effigy on the coin’s obverse, surrounded with the coin’s year and denomination. On the coin’s reverse, you will see an image of Britannia, designed by Jonathan Olliffe. This image features the warrior atop a chariot being pulled by two horses. She holds a shield which details the Union Jack flag, holds a trident and dons her infamous helmet. Surrounding the image, is the coin’s weight and purity. At the bottom of the coin you will see the year 2023, and to the right of this, you will find the designer’s initials “J.O’.
