Description:

Feeling gold fever? Don't worry you don't need to pan for gold. Grab a Common Date $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle AU instead and hold the coin struck as a result of the Californian Gold Rush. The Liberty Gold Double Eagle, sometimes known as the Liberty Head or Coronet Double Eagle, was designed by James Longacre. However, as you might have noticed, his design is indebted to Christian Gobrecht's earlier $10 design, for the U.S. Mint was determined to create a uniform coinage.

The obverse design features a profile portrait of Liberty, adorned with a beaded coronet, emblazoned with the word LIBERTY. Her hair is bundled up at the back, while a few curls tumble down her neck. Her portrait is surrounded by 13 six-pointed stars, representing the original states of the Union and the year of issue is beneath the portrait, while the edge of the coin is reeded. Your coin will be from a random year within this coins long period in circulation. The reverse design is dominated by an eagle displaying its wings, looking to its right. The eagle holds an olive branch and arrows symbolizing that America is a peace-loving nation, but one prepared to defend itself. The phrase "E. PLURIBUS UNUM" (out of many, one) is emblazoned on a banner flowing around the eagle, while in front of the majestic bird is a Union shield. Notably, the design of this shield was altered in 1866, when it was given more rounded edges. At the same time, following the end of the Civil War and the Mint Act of 1865, the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" was inserted in the oval of stars above the eagle. The rays of the sun fan out between the eagle's wings. Where a mint mark is used, you'll see it on the reverse side, below the eagle's tail feathers.

Several types of the $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle exist, each incorporating a few variations. Following the amendments described above, a third type of the coin was produced between 1877 and 1907 when several more alterations were made to the design. The value was changed from its shortened form of "TWENTY D" to "TWENTY DOLLARS." At the same time the motto was emboldened, making it heavier, and the phrase "E. PLURIBUS UNUM" was enlarged. On the obverse side, the tip of Liberty's coronet was adjusted, so the point was positioned evenly between the sixth and seventh star. The truncation of Liberty's neck was also amended, allowing more room for the year of issue. However, your order will be fulfilled with a random and common year of issue, but you can be assured it will be in AU condition so that it will be Almost or About Uncirculated.

Made up of fine 0.900 fine gold and weighing 0.9675 of a troy ounces, gold double eagles were struck and measured at 34 millimeter in diameter. Due to Roosevelt's decision to outlaw the hoarding of gold coins in 1933 and the subsequent melting of so many pieces, gold double eagles are sought after by collectors and investors. In fact, $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagles represents both a steadfast investment and a piece of history. So make this one yours quick.
