Features of the 1904 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle PCGS MS66:
A beautiful Philadelphia Mint issue in an extremely high grade. A clean spot free example!
The Liberty Head coin was minted in the wake of the California Gold Rush. The U.S. Treasury was receiving an unprecedented amount of gold and because of the high supply, was forced to expand their original mintage plan. As a result, multiple double eagle coins, including the Liberty Head coin, were produced. With a face value of $20, it was the largest denomination of regular U.S. issues.
The obverse features a sharp profile of Lady Liberty and the year of mintage while the reverse shows a hand drawn depicted of the Great Seal of the United States by Anthony C. Paquet and the face value. Across the top are the words "United States of America."
