This is a very rare issue from the Carson City Mint. Specialists in tens from that famous mint will want to take a close look at this offering. Rusty Goe tells us that from its original mintage of 7,715, there are 100-135 surviving specimens and asserts that the 1875-CC “ranks among the seven scarcest issues in the ‘CC’ $10 gold series.” PCGS has graded 21 as XF45 with 27 finer. Collectors Universe gives this issue a price of $22,500.00 in XF45.
The Carson City Mint produced eagles yearly during the 1870s in quite limited quantities. The mintages ranged from the low of 1,762 in 1879 up to 16,767 in 1874. Thus this offering is around the middle range of those low-mintage issues. The 1875-CC $10 Eagle is rare in every grade.
