The Trade Dollars were created to facilitate trade with the Orient. While many examples went abroad, the proof examples remained stateside as collectibles and the series remains highly sought after today. This example is one of just 700 examples struck. The surfaces have been immaculately conserved and in hand the coin appears as it did 150 years ago. Boldly struck, the central motif is frosty and contrasts boldly with the rich mirror surfaces. A dynamic gem example of this interesting dollar type.
