1861 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle NGC AU55

At the onset of the Civil War gold was sold to foreign interest to fund the war efforts for both North and South. Recently a small group of 1861 $20s were found in a European bank vault. Deemed the Civil War hoard, the examples are essentially uncirculated exhibiting nice luster, clean surfaces with just a light stacking friction from a century and a half of storage in an over sea’s banks.
