Guide
Authorized in 1849, the twenty-dollar gold coin was created out of necessity from the influx of gold from California. Without a mint in San Francisco the New Orleans facility began to strike the double eagle but mintage figures remained a fraction of its’ Philadelphia counterpart. Today examples both the era, and branch mint gold coins are highly sought after by both collector and investor alike. This early double eagle offers excellent visual appeal with an exceptionally clean central device.
