Features of the 1836 $2.50 Classic Head Quarter Eagle NGC AU53:
Minted in 1836, this Classic Head Quarter Eagle represents a significant period in American history, reflecting the economic and social landscape of the early 19th century. It was struck during the presidency of Andrew Jackson and at a time of westward expansion and economic growth in the United States.
Designed by William Kneass, the obverse of the coin features a classic depiction of Liberty facing left, wearing a headband inscribed with the word "Liberty." The reverse displays a heraldic eagle with outstretched wings, clutching arrows and an olive branch, surrounded by the denomination "2 1/2 D."
Coins from the Classic Head Quarter Eagle series are highly sought after by collectors, especially in higher grades like AU53. This particular coin, dated 1836, is one of the early issues of the series and is therefore particularly desirable among numismatists.
