Description:

The Swiss Franc was minted from 1897-1936 and again in 1947 and 1949 by the Swiss Mint in Bern. The name of the coin originates from "Verena" which is the personification of the Confederation of Switzerland in the female form similar to the American Lady Liberty.

Coin-Features

  • Each coin contains .1866 Troy oz of .900 fine gold
  • Minted from 1897-1936 and 1947 and 1949
  • Swiss legal tender

  • The coin is also known as "Helvetia" from the inscription above the portrait on the obverse of the coin. The portrait of the coin also lends to another nickname for the coin, "Swiss Miss." The reverse of the coin features the Swiss Cross, a wreath of oak, and the 20 Franc denomination. These coins are popular among investors because of their historical significance and distinctive design.

Each coin is 1.25mm thick, 21 mm in diameter and .1866 Troy oz of .900 fine gold. The fineness is similar to other gold circulating at the same time and was seen as an advantage by making the coins more resistant to wear and damage.
