The Gold American Eagle has been minted in a bullion and proof version every year since 1986, except 2009 when the U.S. Mint did not make a proof version. The Gold Eagle is minted in four different sizes: 1 oz ($50 face value), 1/2 oz ($25), 1/4 oz ($10), and 1/10 oz ($5). The design for the obverse was adapted from Augustus Saint-Gaudens famed Gold Double Eagle design of Lady Liberty walking against the sun's rays. The reverse was designed by Miley Busiek of a male bald eagle in flight carrying an olive branch to the nest where a female eagle awaits with her young.
Each coin is 1/10 oz. of gold and guaranteed by the U.S. government
Proof coins are struck multiple times resulting in a mirror-like finish
